How To Hire An NSEP Awardee

Here is guidance on hiring an NSEP award recipient and how federal agencies, federal contractors, non-profits, and other organizations can access the special skill sets of NSEP awardees.

Non-Competitive Hiring into the Federal Government

All active recipients of NSEP awards (like the Boren Scholarship and Fellowship and EHLS Scholarships) are eligible for non-competitive hire into federal government jobs.

The NSEP office can manage these non-competitive appointments from start-to-finish--and at no cost to the hiring organization. Typically, NSEP will advertise a job announcement to the 5,000+ pool of NSEP awardees and return an application package to the hiring office within 24 hours of the vacancy announcement close date. Some offices are able to select candidates within a week after receiving this application package.

Hiring For Non-Government Organizations

The NSEP office can also advertise non-government jobs (e.g. contractor, non-profit, international organization) to the NSEP applicant pool. These non-government jobs are typically related to international development or foreign policy. Any interested organization can email nsep@nsep.gov with a link to the online job posting, and the NSEP office will send out a mass email to the NSEP applicant pool.
