Interagency Language Roundtable Skill Level Descriptors
for Department of Defense
The Department of Defense DoD accepted these new revisions to the Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) Skill Level Descriptors (SLDs) as of May 2022. This new set of Skill Level Descriptions (SLDs) for Proficiency in Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing, will be used by departments and agencies in the United States Government (USG).
They were developed between 2014 and 2021 by a working group of USG employees from a wide range of federal entities, including all of the USG language schools, with the ongoing support of the Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) community, both USG employees and representatives of the academic, nongovernmental organization (NGOs) and proprietary sectors.
These DoD ILRSLDs differ from the ones posted on the https://www.govtilr.org website as they retained the short title descriptors and pure black and white format for use within DoD personnel systems.
