Language Flagship K-12 Initiative
The Language Flagship program sponsors partnerships between institutions of higher education and K-12 educators to develop results-oriented critical foreign language programs in the K-12 (kindergarten through 12th grade). The goal of the K-12 Language Flagship investment is to develop replicable, systemic, demonstration programs that model articulated critical language instruction that contributes to a national pool of high school students with advanced language skills. This is accomplished through the University of Oregon and Portland Public Schools K-16 Chinese Language Flagship initiative and the Flagship Language Acquisition Network initiative, which is a national consortium led by Brigham Young University and the Utah State Office of Education that reaches across more than 20 states. The K-12 Language Flagship contributes to the DLNSEO goal to create future professionals with high-level language skills.
